Old Hollywood meets Old West Austin.
In 1927, the Fergusons built this home, “The Windsor House”, for $8,500. This home played host to some of the most significant dignitaries of Texas political culture, both visibly and from behind the curtains. Whether it was Ladybird Johnson stopping by for tea with Miriam to garnish her endorsement for Lyndon when he was running for senate, or Ann Richards dropping by to say “Hello” to her friend Miriam “Ma” Ferguson. The home silently became the nucleus of the Ferguson’s poetic political culture, known as “Fergusonism”, and many of Austin’s most prominent political families would join the Ferguson’s for their private parties in the walls of their “Windsor house”, aptly named by its location and prominent corner on the edges of Austin’s historic Pemberton Heights facing downtown and the capital.
In 2015 we, a group of local Austinites, purchased the Ferguson estate to restore the Ferguson home to its original grandeur. Knowing the history of the Ferguson home and Miriam Ferguson’s connectivity with the community as a whole, the Windsor House was furnished and started its third life as a home again; this time, available to the public to enjoy.
The Windsor House is where Old West Austin meets her cousin "Old Hollywood" for a weekend of poolside conversation and cocktails. Take calls from your balcony in flip flops and a robe with some of the best views of downtown. This is where the makers create, connect, and come home to. Ideas, inspiration, new family & friends are found here. Miriam “Ma” Ferguson, the first female Governess of the State of Texas, built what would be her longest-tenured and final home here atop the hill on the corner of Windsor and Enfield Road in 1927. Following her second term as Governor, Miriam moved from the Governors Mansion straight into this home, where she lived until her death in 1961. The spirit of “Ma” still fills her home with positive energy, and during the restoration her oversight and approval for the restoration were felt by all of our family of contractors. We pay homage to her positive energy and influence by returning her home to her, to allow her even in death to play host to visiting families, friends, influencers and newcomers. This property was even better than advertised! We showed up to an extremely clean home and were given a tour too. There were a ton of areas throughout the house for sleeping and hanging out. The entertainment and music set up is a nice perk too. This house gets plenty of sunshine and is very close to downtown. I'd happily stay here again!

Excellent location and the house was very clean and nice. Pool area was great for gathering. The house may be older, but the inside is well-furnished with modern appliances and fixtures. We enjoyed our time here and will be back the next time an Austin trip is planned. You can actually rely on the listing information and photos...no hidden surprises!

Loved the location and setup of the Governors Mansion. We had a large group staying at the Governors mansion for a long weekend and the staff were very accommodating upon arrival. They were friendly and offered to answer calls throughout the weekend. The layout of the Governor's Mansion is great for large groups. Plenty of beds and bathrooms. A pretty large kitchen / dining room with plenty of seating. Although the weather was not the best during our weekend in Austin, we still spent a lot of time enjoying the pool and patio area. The Governor's Mansion was located a short cab/drive from a downtown area where we spent a lot of time. I would definitely recommend this location.

Stayed at this home for my first visit to Austin. It has a great pool, plenty of room, and is in a great location. It made our trip very enjoyable and was a lot of fun to stay at. I would recommend the Governor's Mansion for all kinds of groups.

I stayed here for a bachelor party. This place is made to hold a very large group of people. It had plenty of room to sleep 17 people in our group comfortably. The 5 FULL bathrooms were great, too. In addition to the large kitchen on the main floor, the upstairs area had two mini-kitchen areas. The outdoor area by the pool had plenty of space for our group. Another positive was the convenient location next to all of the things Austin has to offer. Would definitely stay here again!

This house was perfect for a large group of people. There were plenty of beautiful beds/bedrooms and bathrooms. The house was in a great central location within walking distance to restaurants and shops on N. Lamar. The house was charming and modern at the same time 5 stars!

This property was exactly as advertised and exactly what my group and I were looking for. The house is spacious, newly-furnished, very well-cleaned and in a great location. All of my guests were incredibly comfortable - the house has several wings that each have their own bedrooms, bathrooms and living rooms. Jack, Jeff and their team were incredibly responsive during the booking and check-in process, and they provide very thorough and thoughtful instructions upon arrival. Overall, I was very impressed. A wonderful place with plenty of room and charm. The house was spotless and more than ready to handle 17 people. Close to everything and far from ordinary, I would not hesitate to recommend the Governor's Mansion to everyone.
We were 15 in Austin for a Bachelor Party, and Governor's Mansion was the perfect place for us to stay. Jack was extremely accommodating and the house was roomy and gorgeous. I wish I was on that balcony right now!

Clean house, comfortable beds, nicely furnished throughout, tv's in every room (which our family appreciates), and conveniently located to downtown. Worked great for our family gathering over Thankgiving.
Just had my bachelor party here with a large group and this was the perfect location. Real close to downtown and a great central meeting location to enjoy all the activities Austin has to offer. The home is beautiful, spacious and well kept. I would recommend the location to anyone visiting Austin and especially those with a larger group.
They've done a great job modernizing while still maintaining the historical value and aesthetics of the house.. the host was very friendly and helpful.. this rental is highly recommended

This place was awesome. We rented it for my bachelor party, and it couldn't have gone better. The place was big, clean, and functional. No complaints at all. It had everything we needed.
Great stay, the house fit a large group of us very comfortably, was well-stocked with clean sheets, towels, and bathroom essentials and appliances. The gov mansion itself is in a very central location in Austin near both 6th street and the Rainey district. I would highly recommend this home for large groups. Thanks again for a great weekend!
We were in town for the weekend which happened to coincide with ACL. The Governor's Mansion accommodated the 13 of us perfectly! The property was immaculate, and Jack and his team were delightfully welcoming and made our check out as easy as could be. We'll definitely be staying again next time any of us are back in Austin. Great house with lots of room. The location was ideal for our large group, about a 10 minute can ride to all the action downtown Austin has to offer. As good as the pictures are, this place is even better in person. Very central locations, great hosts, and an A+ experience. Very much recommend getting the place all set up through their concierge service (Red Carpet Austin) as it makes life so much easier to have the house stocked, and breakfast delivered! Just an FYI, we were 18 men on a bachelor party, and the house handled us with ease. Book with confidence, we can't wait to go back!

The governors mansion was fantastic for a large group at a bachelor party. They have everything that you would normally expect plus multiple refrigerators throughout the house, tvs and an awesome pool. One thing that stood out was the blue tooth speakers they have that must have been old guitar amps. Would recommend this place to anyone with a large party wanting to take advantage of Austin's night life that is max 10min drive away.
This is a great home in a great location, close to 6th street in Austin. Their was more than enough room and space to accommodate large groups. Great private pool and space to hang out during the day and stay cool. Would stay in this home again in a heartbeat.

The house was great and had plenty of space for the large group we had. The location was perfect, about a 10 dollar cab ride to all the night life in Austin. Jack and his team did a fantastic job of getting things ready for us and we could not have been happier with the weekend. It was a number of the groups first time in Austin and it did not disappoint. I would highly recommend this property to any large group looking for a good time in downtown Austin.

Jack was kind enough to let us in early on Friday. The house is very modern and was well-stocked with the basics (including beer!). Suggestion - add Kleenex and conditioner to all the bathrooms. Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms each with their own bathroom. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms that share a bath, plus a bedroom with its own bath, plus a 1/2 bath. You can walk to nearby Pease Park which has a hiking trail. We also walked the 1.8 miles to the UT game which took about 30 minutes. Make sure you go to the nearby Whole Foods (5 min drive) - it is amazing! Our group had a wonderful time at the house and enjoyed the pool throughout the 3 days we were there.
Great location. Amazing house. The pool and outdoor area are awesome. We had a group of 12 stay. All the beds and linens are very comfortable. Everyone in the group was thoroughly impressed with the property. There are three living rooms!

Loved our stay here at the Governor's Mansion. Very comfortable. The pool is outstanding!! Great location - just a short drive or cab ride to all of the major attractions in downtown Austin.
Nice property, plenty of space. Kitchen is very nice and the backyard pool area was great. Everything was in working condition and and was suitable for our large group. I would stay here again.

We had a group of 10 people that stayed at the Governors Mansion for a reunion weekend. The home is very nice and can easily accommodate larger groups. It is close proximity to downtown for going out, but sits adjacent to a quiet neighborhood. Everything worked perfectly and could not be more pleased with the level of service and hospitality!

Amazing location, amazing house!! The property was in immaculate condition. If you have a big group, this is the only place to stay! Jack had the entire house stocked up with stuff before we arrived. It made our trip hassle free and worries free! They helped originize a lot of epic shit to do during our stay. When you rent this house you get much more than just a house! If I could give 7 stars I honestly would. If you are looking to have the best time in Austin and want to stay at the best place, rent the Gov mansion!! I can not wait to return for round 2 with the boys!! This will be the only place we ever stay at when in Austin. Do yourself a favor (and your friends) and book with Jack!

The Governers Mansion was spacious, historic and located minutes from downtown Austin. I highly recommend staying here especially if you're coming with a large group. Jack the landlord was very accommodating and made sure we had an amazing time in Austin. We will be back again!
The property was perfect for a group trip. With 7 BR's, the house offered enough space and comfortable arrangements for everyone. There are also several "common areas" with tv's and seating to fit the entire group. Each area could be made private, if desired, by closing a door. The pool and outdoor area also had plenty of space and seating for a large group.
From the time we arrived until the time we left, Governors Mansion was an amazing place to stay. Great recommendations on places to get food, beer, and even uber-replacements for the weekend were life savers. Everyone had a comfortable place to sleep and plenty of room to cook up a few good meals. Can't get much better for a large group in Austin.

When you first drive up, the house itself is a bit hidden as it is right next to a small hotel. But once you park and go through the gate, WOW! The pool deck is enormous, and built for entertaining and relaxation. We never wanted to leave. The house is spacious, clean, luxurious, well-decorated, and comfortable. The management team is extremely friendly, helpful, and easy to work with. Thanks for an incredible long weekend.

This beautifully spacious accommodation has a historic charm that can't be beat, is well taken care of, & has a responsive staff that can come out to handle any needs. Large clean pool and plenty of refrigerators in the house to help keep cool in the summer heat. It's not far from the airport, and is located just a quick cab ride from the downtown & Lake Austin areas.
We rented the Governor's Mansion for a large group of friends and loved the house. Location is close to downtown in a nice area and the home itself is comfortable and well-furnished. Some of the features we loved was the pool, large table with seating for 10+, and Bluetooth speakers and wet bars in the common areas of the house. Owners were very responsive and easy to deal with.
I had a great time at the old Governor's Mansion. It's very inviting, clean and in a great location. They were very accommodating. I would suggest this house to anyone looking to stay in the area that has more than 10 people.
This was a great stay in a great location. The house has some nice amenities and very well laid out. My only issue is the bug problem. We had large cockroaches all over the place, floor, walls, ceiling and so on.

Great place to stay! PLenty of room, very clean, had everything you need including pots and pans glasses, etc. Everything was labeled and very easy directions on how to use televisions grill and other things. Very clean and organized very impressives bathrooms and multiple sitting areas. A pool person even showed up to clean the pool which made me feel like they keep up with the property. Amazing location a $5 ride to downtown. the management company does a terrific job.

Overall we had awesome time staying here. The pool was great and we had plenty of space to hang outside. The house also had a lot of rooms to sleep in! The house has easy access to downtown areas with only a 2 mile cab ride. Overall it made our experience in Austin awesome and I would for sure recommend staying here I you visit with a larger family or group of friends.

With so many rooms and comfy beds, including the sofa beds, the size of this awesome, newly renovated house, makes for a perfect bachelor party getaway. The pool is huge, and great for both day and night swimming, and there's a great sound system both inside and outside as well. We loved the large kitchen with a huge table so everyone could congregate while we hung out and/or prepped for the bars. Close to downtown and Barton Springs, really couldn't have imagined a better house for our large, partying group!
Looked at over twenty properties - kept coming back to look at this one. Booked it and looked forward to it. It was everything we hoped for and more. Jack and his team were fantastic to work with. The house is BEAUTIFULLY appointed. GREAT location. Parking was a hard to find bonus. LOVED our stay.
We stayed at this house for a 3-day weekend with a 16-person group. The house was very clean when we arrived and had no issues at all throughout our stay. The backyard is perfect for a larger group with the pool, grill, and patio space. The house is furnished with comfortable beds, modern appliances, TVs, Nests, multiple plug-in speakers to play music from your phone, etc. We would definitely come back another time.
Stayed at the mansion for a bachelor party of 18 guys for 3 nights. Couldn't have picked a better place for the occasion! Beds and bathrooms for everyone, awesome central location to everything we wanted to see and do in Austin and the surrounding areas. We used the house for a company retreat. Our out-of-town team members stayed at the house, and we used the interior and pool area for team building and relaxation activities. It was an amazing house, well-situated in Austin for easy access to the city. I hope we can use it again in the future.
What a wonderful house! All the rooms spacious, clean, and comfortable. Plenty of space for relaxing in the common areas and kitchen. We traveled with a group of couples, and things never felt cramped or over-crowded. The amenities were top notch - from the fantastic pool area down to the in-room speakers. Also worth mentioning is the great location - very close to downtown Austin with some nice surrounding neighborhoods for exploring on a morning jog or stroll. Highly recommend this property for a stay with friends in Austin!
The Governor's Mansion was a great place for our group of friends to spend a long weekend in Austin. The home was beautifully appointed with plenty of space for us all to relax both indoors and out. The pool provided a much needed reprieve from the hot July temperatures and the location made exploring Austin was as there quite a bit that was within walking distance or a quick drive downtown. I'd certainly recommend this home to any large groups looking for somewhere convenient and fun in Austin.

This place is a true gem. The house is beautiful and has a really thoughtfully designed interior. We spent most of our time either in the large kitchen, or on the pool deck -- it was the perfect rental for a large group to gather. I would rent again and highly recommend this place to other large groups who want to visit Austin.
Stayed at the Governors Mansion for four days with 16 guys for a Bach party and it could not have gone better. The house was absolutely perfect with enough room for everyone to have a bed. A large layout with several living areas was perfect for our large group. The pool area outside was unreal, we spent many hours floating in the pool and hanging out on the patio. The location to downtown was perfect, a quick 5 minutes taxi ride and you are in the thick of the action. Jack and Jonny were awesome to work with, could not have gone smoother, thanks guys! Our group tends to get a little crazy, thanks for putting up with us!!!
We couldn't have picked a better house for the group that we had. The interior of the house was clean, spacious, and comfortable. But the best part was the pool area, where we spent most of our time over the weekend. It was really the perfect set up to enjoy the great weather we got. Also only a 5 minute drive to downtown. And the concierge was extremely helpful and responsive to most anything we needed. I would highly recommend this house to any large group, 19 max, and I want to thank the owner for such a great experience.
